Arcadia Festival

For the Arcadia Festival, hosted by Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, I was asked to create a nostalgic and accomplished identity, inspired by the printed ephemera of the 1930s travel industry, in particular a poster advertising Bray as a holiday destination entitled “Bray for better holidays”.

I designed the festival’s look and feel, creating posters, banners and the programme, using period typefaces and old postcards and photographs of Bray from the 20th Century.

Inside the programme, the events were divided into various themes, with attention paid to their period significance (Picture Shows, Parish Noticeboard, Victuals) and these were designed up as badges, taking inspiration from typewriter ribbon tins from the 40s and 50s.

These accompanied the relevant event entries in the brochure and helped maintain its period feel, while helping the user journey through the festival’s programme.
