A blackbird sings at dusk –
Queen’s University Belfast

This was one of the first projects I completed in role as Online Visual Content Producer at Queen’s. My office was situated off the Lanyon Building quadrangle, and as it was January, when I left for the day it was dusk, with a lone blackbird singing and a hush descending on the area.

I recorded the blackbird on my phone, coinciding with the clock striking 6pm and used that as the basis for this short film. I had also acquired a camera which could film well in low light scenarios, so it was the perfect test for its capabilities to capture the visual markers of this time of the day in Queen’s.

The blackbird is also the emblem of the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s.
