Amanda Beech
All Obstructing Walls Have Been Broken Down
Catalyst Arts

For the first solo presentation in Northern Ireland of the work of British-born, California-based artist Amanda Beech, I was asked by Catalyst Arts to produce a publication to mark the exhibition and especially to house several pieces of writing connected to the artist.

The first challenge was accommodating the 10,700 words of text, but rather than produce a book, I wanted to explore how to make this into a poster – and into what became 2 A2 double sided posters.

Central to the visual style of the publication was Beech’s drawing work which incorporated large geometric shapes, burnt onto paper. This was developed into large blocks of shape which cut through the text, pushing it into corners and around folds.
